Dr. Hébert (PhD, University of Western Ontario) joined HEC Montréal in 2000 after holding faculty positions at the Richard Ivey School of Business (University of Western Ontario) and earlier at the Faculty of Commerce and Administration of Concordia University. As a researcher, teacher and consultant, his interests encompass the value creation strategies firm implement to expand and exploit their international scope of activities, in particular through strategic alliances and mergers & acquisitions.
Dr. Hébert has taught a variety of courses in International Business and Strategic Management in executive and degree programs in North America, Europe and Asia. He is the MBA course coordinator for Strategic Management and International Strategic Management at HEC Montréal. He is frequently invited to teach in various foreign universities such as EDHEC (France), IECS (Université Robert Schuman, Strasbourg), EM Lyon (France), Universitat de Valencia (Spain), the Institute of Industrial Policy Studies (Seoul, South Korea), Nankei University (Tianjin, China) and ITESM (Mexico). He has delivered executive programs on strategic alliances, post-merger acquisition process, strategic management and internationalization strategy in high-tech firms. The quality of his teaching was frequently recognized, for instance with the «Teacher of the Year Award» presented by HEC Montréal’s MBA student association in 2001, 2003 and 2006. He currently is the academic co-director of the HEC/McGill EMBA program, an innovative executive MBA program to be launched in November 2008.
His research interests focus on the internationalization of the firm, the management of strategic alliances, and the post-acquisition integration process. He published several papers on the management of joint ventures and the management of the post-acquisition integration process in journals such as Journal of International Business Studies, Journal of Business Research, Organization Studies, Management International Review, Gestion, Management International and Advances in International Management. Two of his papers on joint ventures are among the top ten most-cited papers ever published in the Journal of International Business Studies. Several of these papers have also earned best paper awards, including the prestigious Temple/AIB 2006 Best Paper Award for a paper on market entry research, and the important 1999 Journal of International Business Studies Decade Award for a paper on the control and performance of international joint ventures. He received the «Guy Charette Award 2003» for the best paper published that year in Gestion, in addition to several national and international conference paper awards.
These research activities are complemented by consulting assignments on strategic management and by in-house executive training with a variety of firms and organizations in the private and public sectors.
Dr. Hébert is regularly invited on Canadian national print and electronic media to comment about business and economic issues.
